NEW DELIVERY!! 2025 Ferrara Engine on a Freight liner chassis, 1500 gpm pump carries 1000 gallons of water, delivered May 19, 2026

Sheridan Fire was recently awarded a grant from the Department of Natural Resources to enhance the Firefighting capabilities of the department. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry administers the USDA Forest Service’s VFA funds. The funds are for rural and small fire departments. The funds can only be used for fire projects, EMS, HazMat or crash rescue are not eligible. The funds are awarded based on competitive applications.
Earlier in the year, Sheridan announced that we have purchased a new front line engine (pumper) that should be delivered between March and May of 2026. With that comes the need to properly equip the truck. We have been actively pursuing grant opportunities to be sure to provide the best possible service to our community for the least impact on the taxpayers of the district. With this grant, we have purchased a new 4 gas monitor, Foam applicator and nozzle, 800 Feet of 1” forestry hose, 500 Feet of 2” structural hose, 200 Feet of 2.5” structural hose, 4 nozzles and battery operated portable scene lighting.
Sheridan Fire Department continues every day to provide for today, while looking forward to the future, to bring you the very best service we possibly can.
Some exciting news for the residents and businesses in the Sheridan Fire District!
After undertaking a couple months of loading equipment and training personnel, it has gone into service this summer! This is a valuable addition to the department and the citizens of the district.

Safety is our top priority at Nicor Gas, ensuring peace of mind for our customers, communities and employees. We believe in being there to keep homes warm, businesses running and families safe. To further this commitment, we urge our municipal partners to help keep residents safe by sharing the following safety tips:
Smell gas? Act fast! Our distinct odorant makes gas leaks easy to detect. If you smell rotten eggs, call 911 and our 24-hour emergency line immediately at 888.Nicor4U (642.6748) once you are in a safe location away from the area of the suspected leak.
Call 811 before you dig: Understand JULIE Laws before digging to prevent accidents. Contact JULIE at 811, which is a state-wide, toll-free number, to have utility lines professionally marked before excavating.
Sewer line safety: Exercise caution with sewer blockages to avoid potential gas leaks. Report any discovery of gas pipes in sewer lines immediately by calling Nicor Gas at 888.Nicor4U (642.6748) and report it as a natural gas emergency.
Carbon Monoxide (CO) and your home: Illinois law requires that every home and apartment have a CO detector within 15 feet of sleeping areas. If you suspect CO buildup, evacuate immediately and call 911.
Severe weather: While gas service interruptions are rare during storms, it’s essential to take precautions before, during and after severe weather events.
Fraud protection: Be vigilant against scams impersonating Nicor Gas. We never request personal or payment information over the phone. Hang up and report suspicious activity to our customer team at 888.Nicor4U (642.6748).
By working together and staying informed, we can ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in our communities.
